This Brian Froud painting was
one of the three Brian Froud paintings including "Drink Me" and
"The Red Queen" featured in the Travelling Exhibition
of Alice in Wonderland 1990-1991. This exhibition was organised
by the Brotherhood of Ruralists, which includes famous artists
such as Peter Blake and Graham Overton. After travelling to
Torquay, Plymouth, Wales, Oxford and then on to the Picaddilly
Gallery in London, the exhibition left the UK and travelled to
Tokyo, Japan.
Brian Froud had always had an ambition to recreate the feeling of Alice in Wonderland within his own world of fairies, goblins and gnomes. Brian Froud's Caterpillar's Mushroom reveals references to Alice in Wonderland throughout - within this Brian Froud painting you'll find the teapot, the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, the Playing Cards...
Though using acrylics mainly to create this work, Brian Froud also used coloured pencil and ink.
